His Highness Sheikh Dr.Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the wheat farm in Meliha on Friday, April 1, 2022. This initiative is part of His Highness's commitment to leveraging the natural resources available in all regions of the Emirate of Sharjah, transforming them into agricultural and livestock production sites. These sustainable projects aim to provide job opportunities, ensure food security, and strengthen people's connection to their land and reliance on local production of various kinds. His Highness is keen on food security projects in the emirate, aiming to meet the food needs and increase production rates to ensure the necessary quantities are available to cover the needs of Sharjah's cities and regions. Additionally, His Highness launched the first phase of the wheat farm in Meliha on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, by sowing wheat seeds with the participation of officials and local dignitaries, marking the beginning of wheat cultivation. The farm spans an area of 1,428 hectares. With the follow-up and support of His Highness Sheikh Dr.Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Sharjah Department of Agriculture and Livestock announced the signing of a development and operation contract for the wheat farm in Meliha with "Jenan Investment" in Abu Dhabi, with an initial cost estimated at 30 million dirhams. The Meliha wheat farm project relies on the highest quality and purest strains and varieties of seeds, along with a dedicated irrigation water collection station at the farm. This station uses advanced technical specifications as the main supply for irrigating the farm through six large pumps, with a capacity of up to 60,000 cubic meters of water over 24 hours. Water is transported from the Hamda station via a 13-kilometer pipeline to the farm.
